Your challenge :
We challenge you to support the Philips MR Patient Care business as a Lead Mechanical Engineer. Someone who can provide mechanical leadership across all aspects of products from advanced development to troubleshooting of issues in the field. This person will perform detailed design of patient monitoring assemblies, as well as generating and managing component level requirements.
The MR Patient Care Business identifies and meets customer and market needs by designing, developing, and distributing specialized MRI compatible solutions, consumables, and sensors.
You are responsible for :
- Responsible for the mechanical design of future generations of MR Patient Care products
- Connect and align with project management on project content, timeline and costs
- Work with systems engineering, electrical and other cross functional team members to design electronic enclosures to meet system level functional and architectural requirements.
- As a lead mechanical engineer, take ownership and drive design and development activities of electronic enclosures including material selection, thermal management, PCB mounting design, cable routing and meeting EMI/EMC requirements.
- Responsible for requirements, design, implementation, test and integration of module/sub-system in accordance with the higher level requirements and specifications
- Conduct concept feasibility studies. Lead the introduction of new technologies
- Act as mechanical lead to review and provide oversight of RD activities (i.e. internal and external support) developing products for the MRI.
- Oversee all design and development activities of the modules and sub-systems
- Lead prototype development and test activities to ensure electronic module meets all system level test requirements, and work with supplier for production release.
- Drive product development activities including development of design concepts, prototype testing, engineering specs, and module/system level tests.
- Lead design reviews, FMEA analyses, and other DfX related activities
- Review measurement strategies and ensure adequacy of supplier qualification activities
- Analyze technical issues using methodical problem-solving techniques and provide root cause / solutions where required
- Draws up personal schedule and reports on progress

The MR Patient Care team is part of the Hospital Patient Monitoring (HPM) business in Philips.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience :
- Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 15 years minimum of experience in product design and development
- Experience working as a Lead Mechanical Engineer or Principal Engineer role
- Experienced in designing mobile and portable electronic enclosures
- Familiarity with Current ISO standards family that apply to medical devices.
- Ability to interface with internal stakeholders and be effective at managing suppliers
- Experienced in design of die castings, injection moldings, machinings and sheet metal.
- Experience in using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs to analyze designs for static and dynamic stresses.
- Knowledgeable of ASME Y14.100 Engineering Practices.
- Experience with design of experiments (DOE)
- Experience with requirements deconstruction from subassemblies to components.
- Experienced in rapid prototyping techniques (CNC Machining, 3D Printing, Sheet Metal, etc.)
- Ability to understand and debug problems across hardware / software / system boundaries
- Strong background in the computer or medical industry with a great depth of knowledge in the design and development of electronic enclosures
- Expertise in PCB mounting hardware designs, thermal management, and analysis of electronic enclosures.
- Experience in various forms of sheet metal manufacturing, including development of hard and soft tooled features, material selection, surface finish and coating standards such as MIL specs.
- Experience in metal coating and surface finish standards to meet grounding and corrosion requirements
- Expertise in Tolerance Analysis and GDT. Knowledge of good design practices and experienced with DFMEA
- Experience in designing enclosures to meet EMI/EMC requirements, gasket selection and application.
- Independently creates product designs, tests, and analyzes technical problems and applies advanced techniques (e.g. statistical analysis, design of experiments, etc.) to problem solving.
- Experience working with design partners to develop custom solutions for system needs.
- Strong collaborative abilities, proactively provides expert advice in defining and influencing system architecture by working with internal and external stakeholders.
- Methodical, effective troubleshooting/problem solving skills.
- Technical writing/ documentation skills for regulated medical device design environment, including requirements definition
- Self-motivated, able to carry out assignments with limited instruction, and efficiently plans, manages, and delivers development work for complex projects
- Proficient in CAD (PTC Creo preferred) and Project Engineering software (MS Project, Visio)
- Capable of managing project work in alignment with internal processes
- Desirable
- Class 2 or Class 3 medical device development experience.
- Understanding of global regulatory requirements for medical devices.
- LEAN/Six Sigma certification or experience.
- Familiarity with risk management through a full product development cycle
- Experience in the field of Medical Devices product design e.g. CT, MRI, X-Ray, Mammography systems etc. will be an added advantage
